What ISO 12647-6 changes for flexo compared with offset
ISO 12647-6 is for flexo. It is not 12647-2 Table 7 from offset used as-is. Flexo substrates run from film to board, paper white is wider, and TVI follows flexo screen and impression. Unless a film label job says offset solid tolerance may be used, do not accept on ΔEab 5.

Offset and flexo do not share one table
Offset 12647-2 solid aims sit on a few paper classes. The same CMYK in flexo, printed on clear film, white film, or a grey liner, has a completely different paper white or film white; solid Lab* should not be the same number. 12647-6 gives aims and TVI by flexo substrate class. Card a film with the offset table and the fail is often the material, not a wrong ink move.
Dot shape differs too. Flexo dots often go hollow or squeeze under impression; the TVI curve is steeper than offset. Drop an offset TVI aim on top and you ask for a number flexo impression cannot hold.
Which table
| Contract | Use | Do not |
|---|---|---|
| Writes 12647-6 | Flexo material and screen | Borrow 12647-2 Table 7 |
| Writes 12647-2 and it is paper offset | Offset table | Use it to police film flexo |
| Only “per ISO” | Ask which part | Pick the looser table yourself |
When you record, write
- The standard number and the substrate class.
- Solid aim and TVI separately.
- Material changed, aim changed; do not keep the last film roll’s numbers.
