How to audit an old job against the standard it claims

Audit an old job only against the standard, year, and paper class on that ticket. ISO 12647-2 with no year, paper class, or measurement condition cannot be judged pass or fail later. Missing items stay “not recorded.” Do not paste today’s tolerances.

An old printed sheet next to standard clauses

An old-job audit can only use the standard, year, and paper class written on that ticket. If the ticket only says ISO 12647-2 with no year, paper class, or measurement condition, you cannot later call the job pass or fail. Write missing items as “not recorded at the time.” Do not fill today’s tolerances into the blanks.

An old printed sheet next to standard clauses

First read what the ticket actually wrote

Standard number, year, paper or film class, M condition, and backing decide which table applies. Missing year: the numbers in the table may already have changed. Missing paper class: you do not know which solid-aim row to take. Missing measurement condition: today’s remeasure is not the same number as then.

If the printed sheets still exist you can remeasure, but the report must say “remeasured this date” and list today’s instrument and conditions. Do not drop that new number into the old blank and then say the job passed at the time.

What you can and cannot judge

On the ticket You can You cannot
Standard, year, paper class, and conditions all present Compare to that edition’s table Switch to this year’s new table
Only the standard name List the gaps Give a pass or fail
Sheets still exist but no original readings Do a dated remeasure Call the remeasure the original record

Write this on the record

  1. Copy the ticket wording, including what was never written.
  2. List missing items separately.
  3. Bind the remeasure date and instrument apart from the old record.
