What a yellow-variation report cannot leave out

The report must list yellow on its own. Do not write only that cyan, magenta and black passed. State whether it was wet or dry. When you do yellow variation, follow the job ticket. Do not rely on what the shift remembers.

Yellow variation

If the report is missing it, do not conclude

Within a lot, yellow variation commonly uses ΔEab 5, one step looser than the 4 for cyan, magenta and black. Do not hold yellow to 4, and do not loosen cyan, magenta and black to 5. The version in the contract is the one that counts. If the condition or the object is missing, nobody else can check this conclusion.

Report check

Item Do this Do not
Yellow variation The report must list yellow on its own. Do not write only that cyan, magenta and black passed. State whether it was wet or dry. When you do yellow variation, follow the job ticket. Do not rely on what the shift remembers. Writing only a feeling
The common mistake Do not skip yellow just because it does not look obvious. If yellow is over, skin tones and the brand colour both shift. Going along with the wrong reading
What to leave The report must list yellow on its own. Do not write only that cyan, magenta and black passed. State whether it was wet or dry. Leaving only the word pass

Check before you file it

  1. Put yellow on its own line.
  2. State whether it was wet or dry.
  3. Do not judge yellow with the 4 used for cyan, magenta and black.
