What an upgrade path looks like when the press gets faster
When the press gets faster, exposure and line rate run out before the software display. Write which part must change at which speed. Accept today at today’s speed.
When the press gets faster, exposure and line rate run out first, not the software display. The upgrade path has to say in advance: at what increase in speed the lamp, the camera, or the encoder must be changed. Without that path, a system that is enough today will smear tomorrow.

Why it is judged this way
Double the speed and the time to cross one pixel is about halved. An exposure that was just short of a blur will blur. Ask the supplier what the next step of this lamp and camera is, and whether the interface changes. If the interface changes, that is a new system, not an upgrade.
What to compare
| What you see | What to call it | What not to do |
|---|---|---|
| It says that above a certain speed the lamp or the camera must be changed | The path is clear | Write only that upgrade is supported |
| The interface is not compatible with today | Evaluate it as a new system | Treat it as adding one board |
| The edge smears at the new speed | Fix the exposure first | Only upgrade the software |
At job change or when a roll is opened
- Write the highest speed you may run later.
- Ask which hardware that step requires.
- Check that the data can still be opened.
