What a 100 percent system will not replace in the quality lab
A 100 percent camera does not replace the lab spectrophotometer, the barcode verifier, or the retained sample. The camera sees an obvious defect. The instrument gives ΔE and a grade.
A 100 percent camera does not replace the spectrophotometer, the barcode verifier, or the retained sample in the lab. The camera looks at each piece for an obvious defect. The instrument gives colour difference and a grade under the agreed condition. Both reports are needed, unless the system has been calibrated to that standard and this is written down.

Why it is judged this way
Colour on the monitor is affected by the light. When the customer accepts by ΔE, the number has to come from the agreed instrument. The camera can flag a drifting colour bar. After that flag, still confirm with the instrument. When you buy 100 percent inspection, leave the lab instruments in the budget. Do not delete them.
What to compare
| What you see | What to call it | What not to do |
|---|---|---|
| ΔE is required | Use the spectrophotometer | Use camera RGB |
| A barcode grade is required | Use a verifier, or a system that is calibrated | Use an uncalibrated word that says pass |
| A retained sample is required | Keep retaining it | Replace it with a screenshot |
At job change or when a roll is opened
- List the instrument reports the customer wants.
- Check that 100 percent inspection cannot legally stand in for any of them.
- Keep these instruments in the budget.
