How to check cyan-magenta-black variation on the press
From this batch, pull two sheets and measure the same patch. Do not compare yesterday's sheet with today's wet ink. For this variation, follow the job ticket. Do not rely on what the shift remembers.

Check order on the press
Both readings need the same instrument, the same place, and the same backing. Change the backing and 4 means nothing. If these conditions do not match, do not start calling it pass.
Check table
| Item | Do this | Do not |
|---|---|---|
| Cyan, magenta, and black variation | From this batch, pull two sheets and measure the same patch. Do not compare yesterday's sheet with today's wet ink. For this variation, follow the job ticket. Do not rely on what the shift remembers. | Write only a feeling |
| The usual mistake | Do not release within-batch variation on the signed-sheet 5, and do not put yellow's 5 on cyan, magenta, and black. | Leave the wrong number in place |
| What to leave | The report must say it is within-batch variation, which two sheets, ΔEab, and the measuring conditions. A lone 4 is not enough. | Leave only the word pass |
Check at the job change
- Confirm you compared two sheets of the job, not the job against the signed sheet.
- For cyan, magenta, and black, use 4 as the usual upper limit.
- If the conditions differ, do not calculate.
