Substrate color difference: the rule to remember first
In G7, substrate against the target commonly uses an upper limit of ΔE00 3.0. This is the paper or the material itself, not the ink solid. Do not use ΔEab 5 in place of this 3.0.

What this rule covers
Do not hide a substrate that is out by covering it with ink in a later process. If the paper is wrong, the gray balance that follows is matched on the wrong paper. Ink solids have their own numbers. The paper-white 3.0 cannot release a solid, and a solid's number cannot release the paper white.

| The common mistake | Do not hide a substrate that is out by covering it with ink in a later process. If the paper is wrong, the gray balance that follows is matched on the wrong paper. | Leave the mistake in place |
| What to keep | The report states ΔE00, the target paper white, the M condition, and the backing. Written as ΔEab, it does not count as this rule. | Only leave the word passed |
Do these three steps first
- Measure the unprinted material first.
- Confirm that the number is ΔE00.
- If the paper is out, do not cover it with ink.
