What changes for inspection when the job is a mono text leaflet

When the job is only a mono text leaflet, inspection changes to missing strokes, extra strokes, a wrong page, and skewed register. Do not use the colour-difference routine from a colour carton.

When the job is only a mono text leaflet, inspection changes to missing strokes, extra strokes, a wrong page, and skewed register. Do not use the colour-difference routine from a colour carton. One broken stroke can change a dose or a negative word, and that is more serious than an uneven solid. The resolution has to cover the smallest type size.

Why it is judged this way

On a black-text leaflet, what looks like dirt is often the paper texture. What the customer actually returns is a wrong character or a missing line. The template compare is tight on the strokes and loose on the paper texture. If the camera cannot see the smallest type, write that in the capability statement and move the check to a station that can see it. Do not issue a report that says the text was fully inspected.

What to compare

What you see What to call it What not to do
A stroke is broken or joined Stop Call it uneven paper colour
The page number or the version is wrong Stop Look only at whether the ink is even
The smallest type fills fewer than about 3 pixels Change the resolution or the station Still write that the text was fully inspected

At job change or when a roll is opened

  1. Confirm that the smallest type size on this job shows its strokes.
  2. Make a sample with one missing stroke and confirm the alarm.
  3. If the paper texture alarms too often, loosen the texture, not the strokes.
