What a makeready checklist looks like for colour and register

The list keeps only four items. Count official output only after makeready. The tolerance is a number, not “looks close enough”.

A short list clipped on the press

A makeready checklist for colour and register has to be short enough to clip on the press: the signed sample, the measurement condition, the crosshair tolerance, and the inspection template name. A full page will not be used. Official metres start only after makeready is done.

Why it is judged this way

What is most often forgotten at makeready is the measurement condition and the template. Colour against the sample, register against the number, template against the job ticket. When those are signed, then speed up. Waste after the speed-up has an inspection record.

What to compare

What you see What to call it What not to do
All four items are signed You can speed up Watch it while the web is already running
There is no tolerance number Write the number first Use a feeling
The template is still the previous job Change it first Start because the colour looks right

At job change or when a roll is opened

  1. Print the four items on half a page.
  2. Sign each item during makeready.
  3. Metres that are not signed do not count as good product.
